I have been reading a biography of Francis Asbury: American Saint. Francis Asbury and the Methodists by John Wigger.
In a letter that Francis Asbury sent to John Wesley in September, 1783, he writes: "No man can make a proper change upon paper, to send one here, and another there without knowing the circuits and the gifts of all the preachers, unless he is always out among them."
For any who are involved in the appointment process in the United Methodist Church, there still is great wisdom here.
Thank you Dennis for the post. This advice/acknowledgement which translates well in the business world as well as the ministry is sound Biblical wisdom, 'Know the condition of your flock.' Asbury was a wise man.
